This week we’re featuring a classic approach to a Hygge inspired living room.
Our rugged Alberta landscape provides plenty of inspiration for this room. It’s the perfect backdrop for all things cozy and rugged.
Hygge (pronounced hoo-guh) is a big trend right now. As this New Yorker article puts it, Hygge is a Danish way of living that captures “a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.” What more could we want from our homes?
We’ve used warm, natural tones throughout the room in the linens, cashmere pillows, sheep skins and cognac leather arm chair.
We chose deep seating that you can sink into to relax and read a book or watch a favourite tv show, or even lounge for an entire weekend.
We’ve applied taupe grasscloth wallpaper for added texture and warmth and we hung dark, moody artwork to continue the look around the room. This room just needs a stack of books and some lit candles to bring a feeling of Hygge into your home.
These, or similar, items can be found in our LBI store:
Arnold nesting coffee table
Beetaloo bar table
Amand leather accent chair
Herswell mirror
Carnot sofa
If you love the simplicity, comfort and charm of Hygge as much as we do, you can capture it with natural colours and materials. A helpful hint for working with a calming colour scheme is to incorporate a variety of textures to keep things interesting.
