Designs We’re Swooning Over this Fall

Okay, it’s technically still summer here in Calgary, but in the design world, us fanatics are already talking about styles for autumn.

Let me preface this post by saying that I’m not a big “interior design trends” kind of girl. When you’re investing in your home, you don’t want styles that are going to look outdated within a season or a year. You want classic, personal design that’s going to last.

That’s why these picks are not technically design trends — they’re just new finds we’re loving on, swooning over, and talking about amongst ourselves over here.

Want to join the conversation and get inspired with us? Then you’re in the right place, sister!

1. ALL ABOUT THE EDGES

I’ve been seeing more and more attention paid to the edges of furniture designs lately… which I absolutely love. Classic materials with interesting piping? An intriguing meeting between sofa leg and frame? I’m in.

2. CREATING INTEREST & MOVEMENT WITH ANGLES

Sometimes, you just need one or two pieces with that “extra something” that will bring interest and movement into your space. Here are a couple pieces we love for their ingenuity and unique character…

3. ELEGANTLY COSY TEXTURES

You know me — I’m all about elegance, timeless materials, and feeling comfortable at home, and texture plays a huge role in that. We love this textured sofa (and its fabulous edges), as well as the pairing of this rug and the visual texture from the natural stone!

4. WE CAN’T HAVE A LIST OF DESIGN FINDS WITHOUT ART

Art is something I love to blog about… how to start a fine art collection, our favorite art galleries in Calgary, even an art-centric interior design project we completed. To name a few.

So of course there’s art we’re crushing on these days. Art affects us all in different ways, but I love these finds in particular for their movement and touch of mystery.

5. UNEXPECTED LIGHTING

In my post about our spring design finds, I shared some classy-cool branched lighting we were (still are) crushing on. Same concept here: we love lighting that’s a little, well, different.

An unexpected piece can add that layer of personality, surprise, and ultimately, the wow factor. It’s a tricky balance, but here are some designs that are definitely doing it right…

So, what do you think? Could you see any of these pieces in your own home?

I’ll be back next week with the 3rd and final reveal of the 80s Vista Remodel we recently completed in northwest Calgary. It’s a BEAUTY.
